MGB Trade 74 MGB for 89 Alfa Romeo???

Last month I got a pretty good deal ($1500) on a 1974 1/2 MGB that runs well, has a rust free body and has had a lot of work done on it but does need interior and a little body work plus painting. Fellow comes by and wants to trade heads up for a 1989 Alfa Remeo that has a nice new paint job, needs interior and he says it runs out good. Have yet to look it over real good.

Any thoughts on this? Keep MGB or trade for Alfa Romeo?
One other thing The MGB is Gold or Yellow in color. The Alfa is red as is my C5

Thanks,
Tom

Nuffink terribly wrong with either choice, but the MG could actually be cheaper to own and maintain with more readily available parts. Is the Alfa fuel injected? Could be a positive or major source of trouble. Both cars can be very rust-prone. Trim and interior bits could be expensive either way.

It's over! Looked it over better and turns out that it is just nice and shiney with it's pretty new paint. Has some rust issues and has had more body work before than I would want to have to live with.

MGB is in much better shape, just needs prettying up, You know, Paint and interior work. Almost forget need to do wheels too.

Thanks,
Tom

If I'd seen this earlier it would have been: "keep your MG!"

Alfa bits are more expensive, that year car has a "variable timing cam" arrangement that can be problematic, there are too many reasons to list... You found the main one: rust. They're great cars, but ya gotta have a good one to begin with and they're RARE.

What model AR are we talkin' bout?

I was picturing a spider myself as they seem to be more common than the others... In 1989, not much here to pick from other than 164(big 4-door sedan), Milano (4 door sport sedan) and Spider. Myself, I've been strangely wanting a early eighties GTV6 for some odd reason.

Hey, they had the same thread going on over in the Miata forum.

What a co-incidence... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

They don't seem as nice over there... I have both an Alfa and an MGB... I say get both! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Not a co-incidence, am member of both forums and trying to get the best information possible on two vehicles that I know very little about.
I do thank everyone for all information, advice and opinions offered.
Thanks,
Tom

Think I'll keep the MGB
