TR9 ???

Being based on the new Mini platform would suggest a front wheel drive car... ...unless they took the engine/drive-train, moved it to the back and made a transverse mid-engined design - ala Fiat X1/9 or Pontiac Fiero...

Either way, not very traditional TR-like.

Now, if BMW would create a contempory RWD roadster with vintage TR styling cues and character, that would be very interesting. ...IMHO all they'd have to do is dig up their old Z3 design and put some interesting sheet metal around it...

:iagree: They need to stay away from wrong wheel drive. It just wouldn't be fitting sequel to past Triumphs. They have several front engined, rear drive platforms to play with. Build something around one of those. A basic roadster, lightweight, around two liters, priced like a Miata. That market segment only has the Miata left in it now that the Skystice twins are gone.

You guys are dead right. It must be RWD and they've got existing platforms to pull it off. Triumph sheetmetal brought up to date (ala Morgan Aero) would be wonderful. Otherwise - no thanks.

That article is from 2006. It seems like we would have seen something by now. What about the chinese MG that was supposed to be built in Oklahoma?

BMW made the new Mini Cooper, and looks like they are considering a new TR!

I don't know if this is a good or bad thing, but considering how well of a job they have done with the new Cooper I can't Imagine this being too bad.
Considering the fact that BMW is planning a new coupe version of the MINI (and I think it looks absolutely wretched  ...but I digress), I'm not sure they're all that interested in reintroducing Triumph. :confuse:

Dear PJSMETANA

Sorry, but do you have a more recent news reference as the one you have included is over 3 years old. This has already been discussed ad nauseum.

Sorry, had no idea... I've only been on this site for about 5 months. And, no, I just found this and its the 1st I've heard of it.

Andrew, please tell me that Cooper Coupe is a Joker Joke...

I recall them scrapping it, because the distribution would be through MINI dealers and they thought that it would detract from their MINI sales.
