I was sitting at a light today, and out of no where the car just turned off! Do I need to replace the distrubutor or what? The car still has the original Distributor and Starter.

I would be more suspect of the ignition system if it is original factory. THe distributors are reltively reliable. The starter I doubt would be a problem. Did it fire back up after the shut down?

Yes, it did start back up. So still the starter? If so what do you reccomend going with?

Thanks!

my '76 fhc used to do that. eventually it started getting worse and worse, finally stopping running all together. I checked voltage to coil and was getting less than 1 volt.I found that the ballast resistor was bad. I ended up replacing the coil with one that didn't require a ballast resistor and ran 12 volt switched to the coil. maybe a place for you to start.

if it started back up I would suggest the simple things first, check the coil, the ballast resistor, and then the distributor system. Lucas made his electric system a challenge for the owners. It loves to have erratic problems to make you smart and help you with your trouble shooting abilities.

Woody at the Wedge Shop suggested Mallory?

Mine came with a MSD in it thanks to the prior owner, I figured while I was working on the car i would send it back to have some of the butchered wires repaired. MSD cleaned it up, up dated it, and returned it free. So I am partial to MSD. Woody is the man as far as advice, he is 100000000X smarter than I so I would ever argue with him. Only Ted comes close to his knowledge. Of course price means alot too
