Wedge TR8 / SD1 Brake calipers

anybody know the difference between the TR8 and SD1 calipers? Rimmer Bros. acquired a boatload of new SD1 parts from India and are selling SD1 calipers for about $100/each. Fuel pumps for around $60 for carbureted engines, and some carburetors for around $50. For those with TR8's wanting 4 pot calipers if they fit this may be the way to go.

Do you get some kind of an e mail about this?
Spent an hour researching M16 calipers last night. Some real nice light weight ones available.

Is this for a wedge or will it fit?

I don't know but I am all in for doing a group order to save shipping from Rimmer to the US. The Wilwood are over $700 for the brakes and conversion kit but they are a known known, the brakes from India an a known unknown (To quote my least favorite secretary of defense). I will probably wait until I have sold off all the spare parts to see how close I am to being able to addord the Wilwoods. but it is aweful tempting... so many decisions...

Who's been in communication with Rimmer lately

well, I know that the SD1 has a different hub with five studs. So the disks wouldn't fit a TR8 hub because of the stud pattern difference. Unless you were to put on SD1 hubs also. I was hoping that the caliper bolt spacing was the same and that it had the same back spacing as the TR8 disks.

At first glance, you would think they are identicle, but they are not. They do use the same brake pads, and have the same bolt mounting pattern. You could mount up the Rover caliper on the TR8 spindle, but it will not engage the rotor properly. The Rover spindle is identicle to the TR8, just a little bit bigger in every way. The strut tube is slightly longer and slightly larger in diameter. The spindle and bearings are larger. The larger hub has a 5 on 5 wheel bolt pattern and the rotor to hub mounts are five bolts instead of four. The TR7/8 steering arm can be bolted up as well as the lower control arm/ball joint. If you do decide to install the Rover complete assembly, your front wheel will stick out an extra 3/4 inch.

The TR8 is known for front wheel bearing failures when you race or autoX. The four by 95mm wheels are also tough to source. Because of those reasons, I have a set of Rover SD1 struts that I have modified to fit the TR8. They are set up with an 11 inch vented rotor, Wilwood calipers, adjustable 2.5" coil-overs, and 240Z strut inserts. As soon as I finish shortening a 5 bolt Ford posi 8.8 rear end, and buy some new wheels, I will install them on my street car. I am looking forward to having front and rear discs, a posi rear end, adjustable ride height, and a large selection of wheel choices. I am leaning towards 17X8's with a 245 on the back, and 17X7's with a 225 on the front.

thanks tr8todd, that about answers my question.
