Wedge TR8 ignition

my original elect ignition died on me yesterday...while passing a car on a two laner...what fun. I need suggestions on what to replace it with, the simpler the better. It is a carb TR8, basicly stock.

Mine's a Mallory Unilite; bought it from Woody at The Wedge Shop. A little pricey (aren't they all?), but I'm very happy with it. I also have a spare module for it, just in case. And I have the original Lucas distributor.

The hookup is basically three wires, including a ground. Very simple, but if you get it from Woody, he'll give you great help with the installation if you need it. You will have to swap the drive dog, but that's not hard at all.

The Crane XR300 is a good choice. Good luck finding one though. Crane is back logged on the production. I think I bought one of the last ones on a retailers shelf a few weeks ago. When they are in stock, Summit and Jegs have some of the best prices.

You can also replace the original with a Mallory MSD box. The 6AL will get you an adjustable rev limiter too. The MSD box is big though and probably won't fit in the engine bay like the XR300. The MSD box is also more expensive.

Mickey already gave you another good option as well. You can convert them to GM HEI distributors also, I don't know the details on it but Ted mentioned it to me when I asked him if he had any XR300's.

MSD has a new Controllable advance gizmo in 1 of theirs. I saw it on one of the Speed Network shows. It is called the e curve and it looks like none for the GM products . They do have this . Shows with the dog

I want a new one too. I need to know if there is anything special when it is a OBD run vehicle.

I have a Mallory distributor and MSD 6 ignition module sparking my carbed 3.5 liter engine. I've found that Amazon.com has a lot of auto parts. I purchased my distributor there for about $240 (albeit for a Rover 3500).
