Wedge TR8 Gearbox Oil

I have an MG with a 3.5 engine along with a LT77 5sd gearbox as used in the TR8. I have read that it is suggested to put ATF in the gearbox to avoid notchy shifting problems but have also learned that it leaks easily. Any other suggestions or recommendations? Thanks,
Dave B.

I use ATF in the 5 speed in my TR7. Shifts really nice, even when cold.

I just switched to ATF in my TR8. It would take 10 minutes of driving before the car would allow me to go into 2nd gear. Now with ATF, I can get in first shift immediately from cold.

No leaks from my tranny that I've noticed.

Definitely make the switch. You won't regret it. (Unless, I suppose, you like getting your hand buzzed from the gears when cold!) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I use GM Synchromesh Transmission Fluid 1#12345349 as recommended by Woody Cooper. Works great. If you can't get it from a local GM dealer, you can get it from Woody: Wedgeshop@AOL.com

I second the GM Synchromesh recommendation. There was a very good article written on the TR7/8 transmission explaining the different types of fluids used. I can't seem to find it but the study weighed highly on the synchromesh fluid. My father uses it in his tr7 and I use it in my 8 without problems.

i use redline dt4. its cheaper than gm synchromesh and at least as good.
