Wedge TR8 Fuel Pump Question

After removing my TR8 in tank fuel pump i see that its electrical terminals are not insulated. This remains the case after replacing it with Woody's kit. Isn't fuel a conductor? Shouldn't the fuel provide an electrical short circuit when submerged? I really don't want it to go kaboom when I turn on the key.

The wires are exposed and I worked for Woody for years and others on here will agree......at first initial thoughts are man this can't be right? But it is and it wont blow up. Make sure you attach the wires/straps to the same connectors. You will see the almost cross over them selves and there is a tab on one side of the pump at the terminals to orientate the pump in the bracket so before you rip off the old pumps look at the connectors and braket to put it back the same way. Good luck!

TR8 fuel pump is not specific. It has dozens of applications from the late 70s early 80s. Final price is dependent on supplier and application. I think it was originally used by GM on a Monza. I see them often on Amazon.com for short money.

Thanks, guys. I appreciate your reassurance and will now add some gas with steadier hands.
Incidentally, the TR8's pump went out shortly after my son's TR6 sputtered out on what was supposed to be a short vacation trip north to the Keweenah. After using most of our non ethanol fuel, we filled up at the border with some supposedly 10% ethanol high test. The TR6's tank coating let loose and has to be dipped and re sloshed. Coincidence?
