Ok,

Here is the deal, I have had it with the original carbs, I have been having problems for weeks, and my mechanic has done his best. What are the best carbs to get to replace the originals?! I am not looking for anything fancy or neccesarily high performance, I am looking for reliablilty!

Thanks,

Rod

p.s. Also a place to purchase them from would be great too!

how about hs6's? they would use the same manifold.

I think the most popular conversion is the Holley 390cfm. This apparently is easy set up and gives you a bit more power.
You obviously need some form of low-rise manifold, I think Edelbrock is the common one.

I am not very knowledgeable about TR8s, but have seen articles on this conversion, and have seen many cars using this carb, so there will be a "support group" available if you make this choice. (Tried and tested is often the best strategy.)
Simon.

I have an Edelbrock 4bbl on an Offy manifold. Works great, decent mpg. Suggest contacting Woody Cooper <Wedgeshop@AOL.com>

Hi, could you please explain your problems,I have the original carbs also and my engine misfires untill it gets good and warm.I also have a high idle problem sometimes.I am sure they can be corrected,I just havent gotten around to it yet.I have been taking the lazy way out and driving it untill it clears up.But it is bugging me.

Check the PVC valve to see if it is clogged, that was one of my problems. That could cause all those problems, but it could also be running too rich. Good Luck.
