Wedge TR7 with A/C: good power?

Hello all,

I love my '6, but I am considering buying a TR7 as well. I drove a '79 as a daily driver in graduate school, and I have missed it every day since I let it go.

My question is this: the one I owned before was a model without A/C had lots of horsepower and torque. Do TR7s with working A/C systems maintain good power?

Thanks very much.

The 8's with A/c run like a ra....ape.
Paul????

I removed the non functioning A/C from my 81, both to lighten it and simplify maintenance. The 81s and the California 80s and 81s had FI and reportedly suffer less in terms of performance and driveability with A/C. Of course the TR8 has no problem carrying the load with or without FI. The A/C on the 7s was true factory air as opposed to the dealer installed or aftermarket units on previous TRs. The fan forced ventilation on mine is good as it probably was on the one you drove, and I would assume the A/C would work well also.

I would think a modern A/C system would barely affect the performance of the TR7's engine.

Presently I'm restoring a 77 TR7 that had factory A/C. The system was missing from the car when I bought, aside from the A/C connections at the firewall. Someday I may install a unit.

The TR7 ac system works very well, and the car still has sufficient power. Most AC systems are removed along with the air pump just to clean up the engine bay and remove excess weight.
