Wedge TR7 & TR8 bumpers / doors / dash parts interchange

Coupe and convertible front bumpers are different. Interior bits are interchangeable, but early dash and consoles were black; later ones grey. Doors (coupe vs. convertible) should be the same, though later interior door panels had different cutouts for the lock buttons.

Bumpers first. The short answer is yes, they will interchange. The long answer is convertible front bumpers stick out more because of the mounts, and have weights in the ends. The coupe front bumpers fit snuggly and look cleaner. They also have slightly different plastic grills above them. The real early coupe rear bumpers have extra brackets along the sides. All of the coupe doors are the same. All of the convertible doors are the same. The 81 doors use a different interior lock. They also have a different trunk lock. Early coupe door panels don't have interior lights. Coupes had white and black visors. Converts had ones to match the rest of the interior. The panels behind the seats have a sharp edge at the top on coupes, and are rounded on converts. There are other differences, but they will be covered next semester.

Thanks guys - I appreciate the info.

I picked up a nice early TR7 coupe today as a parts car, mainly for the rear back bumper and dashboard casing etc..

Let me know when the next semester starts, because I need to be taken to school!

You can dye the early black dashbords grey with vinyl dye if you have to. That is all they did from the factory. They did it to cut down on in car temperatures and glare. The light bar above the dash knobs is different than one from a convertible. Don't forget to keep the tire pressure plate inside the glove box. They are different as well, and is one of the first places you look if you think you have a fake TR8 or a conversion.
