From what I understand they reduce the nose dive effect from hard braking. The stock springs (I have A/C in my car) are pretty weak IMHO. Push down on the nose sometime. Feel how easy it is compared to a lot of other sports cars.

Before you buy, check to make sure that the springs are the right height. One of my car's POs replaced the springs with uprated, SHORTENED ones. Although they help the handling a lot, they make the car very hard to steer, as they knock the camber out of specs with no way to adjust it.
PS. I've done most of my recent purchases from Brad at Wedgeparts...I'd check there first.

I have the VB heavy duty springs on my 81 with AC and they are about perfect. Ride height is stock and the handling is great [urethane bushings were a help too]
The same springs on my '76 were too high. It's a lighter car by far and the things looked bad, though handled well. I then bought the Rimmer Bros heavy duty set that are billed as 1" shorter" all round. Again -- perfect looking and handling.
My advice is to get the right set. In the scheme of things they aren't much money. And I'd certainly invest in urethane bushings too. The 'black' hard ones from VB and others are good but squeaky. Somewhat better and smoother are the orange polybush ones from the UK. Pricey, though.
