Wedge TR7 rearend replacement ?'s

I know some of you have replaced the original TR7 rear with stronger units like 8.8's. Just wondering how difficult this was and what was required, ie. narrowing, mounting brackets, and brake hookups. Thanks in advance.

I wonder why you'd need to replace it for a stronger unit. The rear end is the same Salisbury unit used on the Land Rover 101's, 110's, and Defender models. It's quite rugged as is, given the punishment it can take from off road driving.

A replacement will be required because I need better gearing and a limited slip or locker. This will be a drag car cabable of low 10 second quarter miles running a 500 hp buick v6 turbo /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif. The motor and trans are already in, and I just don't think the stock rear is up to the task. A more common unit like a ford 8.8, 9 inch , or GM 10 bolt also offers mor options for gearing and brakes. Also, a c-clip eliminator will be required by the sanctioning bodies.

I have seen an article at britishV8.org that gives instructions on how to put a Dana 44 out of an old postal jeep in an MG. Can't seem to find it now. If anybody has it, I sure would like a copy. Hope this helps. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
