I bought the TR7 I mentioned in another post. Low miles it runs well. I keep hearing the TR7 motor is junk. Anyone comment on that ? Id rather not end changing to a 3.5 right now (although the thought is tempting)

They had a lot of union/quality control in the later years. The early years were generally better built. If your cooling system is clean and well maintained, general oil leaks kept to a minimum you can probably get quite a bit out of that motor. I understand the Brits are reimporting them(from the colonies and other places) and refurbishing them for themselves.

I'd have to disagree with Ron..the last Solihull-built TR7s are the best made of the bunch.

The early cars suffered from lots of quality issues from design flaws to union sabaotage. Repeated union problems at the Liverpool plant prompted the movement of production to Canley.

Production was then switched to a newer plant at Solihull and the last of the 1980's models (I believe) were built there. All of the 1981 and 1982's were Solihull-built I believe.

I have a 1981 DHC project.

The TR7 engine was a good deisgn although not perfect. SAAB bought the design and used it for ten of thousands of SAAB built well into the 1990's...
