hi guys, i know the firing order on the tr7 is 1,3,4,2 but where is no 1 on the distributor? a pic would help, cant find it in the bently. thanks

I seem to remember something in the manual about the rotor pointing to the first holdown bolt on the intake manifold when #1 is at TDC. The Bently manual has all the right stuff in it, but can be confusing about where a specific bit is found. My problem in my past fooling around with this is visualising which direction the rotor turns. I'm pretty sure it's CCW as the crank turns CW looking at it from the front. Any way it is all discernable, so don't despair.

It can be anywhere you want to put it. It all depends on where the rotor is pointing when you drop in the distributor. It is common practice to bring the engine to top dead center and install the distributor so that the rotor points at the closest intake bolt. Put the number one wire on the closest terminal on the distributor cap to where the rotor is pointing. Go around from there 1-3-4-2. Bear in mind you could be 180* out and the engine will backfire thru the carbs. If that is the case, you need to remove the distributor and turn and turn it so the rotor now points 180* from where it was pointing. Once you get it running, adjust the timing by turning the distributor. Just remember, no 1 only points at that bolt if that is where it was previously set.
