Wedge TR7 finally made it home

I finally made it home to Oregon in my '76 fhc i purchased in Missourilast October (towed by a GM product). On the way i suffered a leaking seal in the intake manifold, flakey haeadlamp lift motor, headlamp switch failure, and the regulator overcharging the battery. The final straw was something with the carburators not having power off idle. It's hard to get on the freeway that way. Luckily that happened at my wife's parents home.

That all said, i put a new battery in at home and it started right up and moved smartly into the shop next to the '81 dhc hoping to be ready for the british car club meeting next weekend.

Likely torn diaphrams in the carbs. A $5 and 5 minute fix -- the only repair of that type you'll see for awhile /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Sounds like everything made of rubber is going to need attention in that almost 30 year old car. Keep us posted and take lots of pix.

Yeah, I carry too many parts, but this is another one that takes little space and so I don't leave home w/o it. Ziploc makes a little container that is just the right size for storing one of these in ready-to-go condition:

good point on the rubber. while taking off the intake manifold yesterday i noticed the heater hoses are cracked, new radiator hoses though. while changing the starter i noticed the cross member bushes are cracked, gaters on struts are torn. i guess i'll be busy for awhile.

i replaced the starter and alternator (with a newer style alternator off my '81), tidied up the wiring harness a little. new battery cables

i noticed also that the p.o. had used form-a-gasket in addition to the intake manifold gasket and water pipe o-ring for some reason. yechh. also noticed some differences between the engine from my '81 and the '76 version, notably coolant circulation differences.
 
i took the zs's apart yesterday for a look. found some loose parts rattling around insided. diaphragms looked new, but the alignment tab wasn't engaged in either diaphragm. so not sure if it was leaking or the loose parts are important.
 
a photo of the '76 fhc before leaving oakland calif. on the last leg to eugene oregon the home in the background is musician shelley doty a guitarist with her own band.she told me her mother's first stick shift car was a '76 TR7`
