I was in a junk yard the other day pulling a 5 speed tranny for my BMW, when I stumbled across a 81 TR7 with an auto tranny. I am reasonably sure that the 81's that came with auto trannys shared the 3.08 rear end with the TR8. Decent 3.08 rears are getting very hard to come by. Many have been changed out to the 3.45's from TR7 convertibles. The yard wants $100.00 for the rear end, and I would have to pull it. Figure 2 hours time. If I do pull the rear, that would would allow to get at the gas tank. Fuel injected 81's have the two outlet gas tanks like the TR8 does. Is anybody interested in this rear end? I know Woody sells every one he gets, but he can't justify $100 plus the time it would take to pull it in hopes that it is useable. He has been trying to get us to do it for him. It is located in Massachusetts. The same yard has a complete 3.9 liter Rover on the shelf for $200.
