TR6 TR6Engine rebuild considerations and which engine?

I'm needing a rebiuld. I have two engines, actually three. I have a 76 engine in my parts care that came off the road running but has not been turned over for three years. I had the head on this one milled .1" (100 thou.) It rattles when started and has low oil pressure. I have 74 1/2 that has been sitting out in a field for many years that I cannot turn over by hand and is probably shot. I have the engine in the car now but it turns out it is a GT6 engine. I've been told that Gt6 heads breath better the TR6 head. Is there a major difference in POST 74 1/2 engines? Questions, questions. Please help. I'm haveing thoughts of passing on the project getting a BMW Z4 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thirsty.gif

Re: TR6Engine rebuild considerations and which eng

Someday many. many people will have Z-3's & Z-4's and only a select few of us will have our TR6's.

Re: TR6Engine rebuild considerations and which eng

The first thing to do is find a reputable machine shop. Talk to people at auto parts stores. Go to the local race tracks and see where the race engines are being built. Talk to club members.
Decide what type of build you want. Stock, fast street, etc. Buy Kas Kasner's book and Roger Williams' "How to Improve Triumph TR5, 250, & 6. They will provide excellent information toward a rebuild.
Decide how much money you want to spend. Rebuild the '76 engine to the spec you want.
