TR6 TR6 ZS carb rebuild

I'm planning to rebuild my stock '73 TR6 ZS CD carbs in the springtime. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
I've bought repair kits (looks like just gaskets and rubber bits) from TRF for both carbs and read a lot of literature about how the carbs are built.
I've also read somewhere that this might be a tricky proposition and not for the faint of heart.
The carbs don't seem to be leaking and the car runs well except fairly rich, it has about 80K miles on it and I doubt anything has been done to them.
Has anyone done this and is there anything I should know about (other than making sure I have no bits left over at the end)
Maybe I should just adjust the mixtures and balance them and call it a day, what do you think?

I think you'll be surprised how easy it is to rebuild Stromberg and SU constant depression/variable venturi carbs. When I got my last TR3 the carbs needed to be cleaned up, and I was terrified. Turns out an average teenager with attention deficit and one eye on MTV can rebuild these suckers with no problem.

Unlike some of the American carbs, there simply aren't a lot of scary parts. Just pay attention to the order gaskets stack and orient, and you'll be fine.

You can try just setting the mixture/balancing them...you might be fine with that, and that makes sense to try first, but don't be scared to dig into them if you're still running rich.

Hi Graham The ZS carbs are just a bit more complicated than the their SU counter parts. If the car is performing ok and there is no leakage you may just be a leg up by reseting the mixtures and balance on the carbs . You have the kits and can face the rebuild later if needed.-FWIW---Keoke

Thanks for the reassurance guys.
Always good to know I'm not treading where mankind has not been before!

I've rebuilt a ton of Holley and Carter carbs, and these are pretty simple in comparison. When I pulled mine off it was because my throttle shafts were leaking badly. Thats really the only part that you might not be able to do yourself. I disassembled the carbs and just sent the bases with the throttle shafts and butterflies to Apple Hydraulics in NY and they refit new ones, nice and tight. Got those back and did the rest of the rebuild myself. That was 2 years ago and they've been doing pretty good so far.
