TR6 TR6 windscreen assembly removal

Hello all,

I'm having trouble removing the windscreen assembly from my '74 TR6. I am looking to replace the padded dash. Please review my steps and tell me what I'm missing. If I missed a previous thread via the seach engine I apologize.

Loosened the bolt (each side) from the windshield post bracket.

Removed the lock nut (each side) from the post that goes through the bracket.

Removed the three bolts to frame at the inside window.

Lift the assembly off...No, not coming off!

Am I missing a bolt or two here or am I being too careful when trying to remove the assembly. I had a feeling this sounded a little too easy when I read the tech book.

Thanks for any help!

Hi Ed,

In addition to that info Geo pointed you toward, when you reassemble be sure to use some sort of anti-sieze product on the stems of the windshield frame to help prevent it sticking again the next time you need to remove it.

I either use the aluminum type anti-sieze that's commonly available for spark plugs, or some "copper slip". Either one will do the trick. I imagine even some Waxoyl would help, too, if you have any handy instead.

Good advice Alan...That will be done for the next guy 30 years down the road. I guess that could still be me, but I probably won't be able to get down low enough to undo those nuts again.

I'm happy to report that the windscreen assembly came off as reported. A block of wood and a hammer down under with two guys up above wriggling the windshield pulled it right off in about 10 minutes time!

Thanks to all!
Ed
