TR6 TR6 Window adjustment

I've been trying to get my doors to seal against the top for a while without much luck. No matter what I do the glass doesn't press up against the rubber strips on the top frame. TR6 Bill had mentioned that the glass could be adjusted inside the door. Has anyone ever done this. I'm looking at a diagram of the door internals and the window channel mountings appear to be fixed. I'm guessing I need to have the bottom of the glass channels more towards the exterior side of the door. That would push the top of the glass towards the inside more and hopefully press up against the rubber seals on the frame. I'm hoping to get all the info I can before I tear the doors apart. Only want to do this once. So any advice, hints, tips, etc would be greatly appreciated. BTW the top frame appears to be straight nad in good shape. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif
 
Jerry, it's been a while, but the channels have a little adjustment in the bolts that hold it in place by verture of a small slot. Check to make sure your channel fuzz has not rolled up and keeping your window out of center. Wayne

I totally dismantled by doors during my rebuild. Surprisingly , the window glass will come completely out of the door through the top (sans the two rubber fuzzy mouldings and window washer mouldings) by just unbolting everything. Early on, I sat about to rebuild my guide channels with new felt. Talk about a female dog. Well, lo and behold, good ole TRF finally came out with completely new channel assemblies, brand new and relatively cheap. No brainer for me. As stated above, there is play in all the bolt holes and everything is adjustable. I say if you are frustrated with your window setup, take the doors completely apart (do not take the doors off the hinges - big mistake), window glass and all, you might well find some things that aren't as good as they can be. Like maybe the window crank mechanism isn't allowing you to crank all the way up (this was one of my problems, new crank mechanism fixed that), lubricating grease on the lower channel might be dried out (axle grease), any of a miriad of things that will make the windows less than perfect. Just do it and have fun, not that bad a job....

Well, I am a glutton for punishment so something like this to me is a challenge.

When I was a small boy, I once took an old 1930's style typewriter apart, all 2 million pieces, and put it back together. It worked! I was able to raise and lower the window on that old Olivetti with ease!

There was at one time 2 different thicknesses of rubber on the market. alot of thin material was sold where the thick was needed. This could be the case.

Also, the angle of the windshield frame itself is adjustable. That might be the problem, or part of the problem, especially if there are gaps at the windows on both sides of the car.

Now, I wish someone would make a window crank handle that wouldn't break off in my hand (the little round black knob part) about every 6 months. I swear I've changed these things at least 5 times. I now buy them by the half dozen. Frustrating. All the vendors sell the same ones, hecho in Taiwan.
