What was the original finish on TR6 water pumps, bare cast iron or black paint?

My pump and pulley, which I believe are original, appear to be bare cast iron. However, several of the restoration guides show the pumps painted black, but do not mention it specifically. The tech folks at TRF indicated that they were most likely painted the same as the block, but there were exceptions.
