TR6 TR6 Transmission rear seal removal

I'm trying to replace the rear seal on my non O/D transmission. Can I remove the seal without pulling the tail shaft off of the transmission? I have the bolts off the main housing and I removed the flange but I can't get the tail piece off unless I make up some sort of special tool. Is it okay to just pry the seal off similar to what you have to do to the differential main pinion seal?

I don't think that it's possible to do without removing the drive shaft, but why would you have to remove the tail shaft from the transmission? The seal should just pry out, clean the mating surfaces, apply a light coat of oil to the seal and the metal and tap it in evenly around the seal. A big round socket or metal installer that aligns with the seal frame (not touching the rubber) and allows you to drive it in would be great if you can find something like it.

If you have the flange off, you should be able to pry the seal out. I see no need to pull the tailshaft housing off.

OOps! I forgot to say "I don't think that it's possible to do without removing the drive shaft FLANGE". Sorry, my bad!!

Okay I forgot to mention the transmission is out of the car and I have the flange off the shaft of the transmission. Just wanted to check to make sure I could pull the seal off even with the tail shaft still on the transmission.
