TR6 TR6 Tire Recommendatios

I searched as best I could; oddly enough, this doesn't show as a topic on this forum...

I have a 75 TR6, essentially stock, in need of new tires. I don't need anything outrageous, but since the car is driven for fun I don't need an especially long-wearing tire either. Mostly around town, with an occasional trip to the Tail of the Dragon...
Stock size is not necessarily important, but I don't want to get too radical there either.

For reference, I just put a set of Sumitomo HTR200 on my 76 Spitfire, and so far I'm satisfied. 175/70-13; I wish I'd gone with 60s instead.

Thanks!

Welcome to the Forum Jeff

There are so many great choices when it comes to tires for these little British cars.

If you have time go into the archives of this forum and read the many discussions on this matter.

205/70/15 seem to be popular. (I searched as well and it didn't come up, despite being a recurring topic).

What rims does she have?

Jeff
This was recently discussed in a thread called Tr6 Tires. I recently bought 205/70/15s Yokohama AVID TRZ’s for my 1975. I really like the tires (although I was basically called a Communist for buying tires made in China…..) They drive and look really good. Search for that thread, it is worth looking at.

Jeff, Welcome to the Forum. Nice to have you here.

I personally like Goodyear 205/70/15 on the stock rims, but that's just me.

Thanks, gents. Regarding the search, I tried the suggested topic...sadly, I didn't realize that the Advanced search defaults to posts less than a week old. Changing that to 6 months solved the problem, and gave me a wealth of info to read...

You can see the car here: https://fishplate.org/vehicles/ Original paint, completely redone interior, and sat in the garage under a cover for five years. Got it drivable, but still needs some major sorting.

Stock rims, though I'm flirting with painting them black instead of silver...It looks good on the Spitfire, with the silver center caps.

Nice car, do yourself a favor, you will be glad you did. Put a set of Michelin tires on Panasport wheels. Then you won't think latter, "wish I had gone with something else ". There is also a coupon you can get from Michelin, 60 bucks off if you buy 4 tires. And, remember, don't support the "commies" by buying their junk.

I'm just getting new tires on my TR6 this week
Dunlop Signatures 205/70R/15
Personally I don't like the low profile tires on TR6's, I don't think they look right in the wheel well; my 2 cents

Last summer I put on G.Y. Regattas 205/70/15 and they seem to fill in the wheel well nicely whereas the old Pirelli lower profile 60 series left just a little too much space for my taste. I got them off walmart.com for a good price but I goofed and ordered them in whitewall's, but don't cringe...I've got the stripes turned to the inside! and I checked the dot and they were made in Gadsden Alabama...how American can you get.

You ever been to Alabama? That's a furrin country.....

Have you looked at Tirerack.com which is a supporting vendor to this forum? I got a set of Kumho tires from them for my TR4 and have been very happy. From what I have been told, Kumho is a Chinese company that started in the racing tire business and expanded to passenger vehicle tires. My local tire guy recommended them.

Dunlop Signatures here too, for about a year. From Tirerack, with a 50 dollar rebate at the time.
I bet they are made somewhere other than Great Britain nowadays, but Dunlop and LBCs' seem to be good pairing.

THe only tire I ever had that disintigrated was a Michelin, long ago, probably an XZX, ok, that was a long time ago, recently had Michelin Energy MX4 or something like that on my Maxima, rode very hard and loud, I have had also recently had Kumhos, Firestone, and Hankooks on my cars and have been very pleased with all of them. I really don't see what Michelin offers that is worth the additional dollars they seem to think their tires are worth.

As far as TR6 tires I just got Falkens from Discount Tires Direct for my TR250 (same chassis) but can't say much about them because I haven't driven on them yet, if you are looking for a little lower profile tire there a lots of 65 series 15s that will fit, be easier to find and cheaper, but if original look is what you want go with a 70 series.
