Can anyone tell me the starting point for setting the I mixture.I turned the screw clockwise until it stopped.How many turns counterclockwise to get me in the ballpark. Thanks sundown

Full clockwise is as good a starting point as any. The range is quite limited and your engine will probably run fine at full rich (though emissions and fuel consumption will be higher than they might be).

Note that the screw only has a range of about 2.5 turns. If you go CCW more than that, it may become disengaged from the needle carrier, requiring disassembly to put it back. It's also kind of fragile, so don't try to force it to turn.

Thanks Randall, I started the engine at the full rich position runs great but a strong gas odor, think I need to back them down a bit.What do you think? I'm concerned about burning the valves up.

Sure, it was just a starting point. Running rich won't hurt the valves; but might possibly cause more rapid piston ring wear.
