TR6 TR6 steering wheel

This may be like talking politics or religion, but I was curious as to what kind of steering wheel is most popular with this group for a TR6.

While I was planning on waiting for the steering wheel to be the last touch in what may be a long restoration, the current one is starting to come apart in my hands (just the grip on the rim) when I drive.

My old '67 MGB had a Moto Lita wooden wheel, and it looked great. However, the greater amount of black on the TR6 interior is making me look toward the leather covered models.

Any thoughts?

Bill,
An inexpensive fix for the stock-style steering wheel is to repaint the spokes and cover the rim with a good quality leather cover. I put a new steering wheel on mine and had to paint it anyway. They don't make 'em like they used to. The paint it came with chipped easily. I also covered the wheel with said leather cover (found it a Pep Boys, with a nice beaded leather texture) and spent a whole afternoon stitching it really well. I personally like a little thicker grip to handle my monster. And, it looks almost stock. Never was a fan of wooden wheels, can't get a good grip.

I just put a new leather cover on the wheel of my Chrysler van, and agree about the slightly larger grip being nice. However, the TR6's wheel is loosing the "foam"-type stuff that was applied to the metal rim. It's just falling apart. Dried out...another victim of the hot Central Calif sun.

I replaced my stock TR6 wheel with a 13-inch Astrali and absolutely love it. A very reasonably priced solution. The fat grip and reduced diameter are exactly what I needed for better control and comfort.

I had the same problem with the original wheel rubber cracking, I replaced mine with a leather Moto Lita, I chose black leather to match the interior of the my car as the wood wheel did not match up with the burlwood dash.
I'm pleased with the look. Check out Rimmer Bros in the UK even with the low dollar to british pound + shipping they are cheaper than Moss and others over this side of the pond.
Take Care,
