TR6 TR6 Steering column clearance

Took a ride Sunday with 3 other TR6's - all red; a '69, my '71, a '72 and a '73. We actually passed another red TR6 going the other way. With hoods up, I noticed that the steering column in the other cars cleared the right-angle section of the firewall bulkhead by about an inch while my column actually rubbed against the bulkhead; in fact I had wrapped some tape around the column to prevent a rattle and protect the paint. Is there any way to raise the column so that it clears the bulkhead? The column bushing seems fine and the column has only a tiny amount of play.

I think a picture might help. We might be able to spot a problem. Mine is also about one inch.

Sounds like an angle issue with the mounts under the dash?

From your discription it sounds like you need to lossen all of the mounting bolts and adjust the column out a bit. There should be directions in one of the Bently manuals. There is an inch or so adjustment available in my 4A and a six should be no different.

I'll check it out this weekend. As far as pictures - I tried and failed to post pictures before. Remember - I'm an old fart. I'll be 79 next month.
