Does anyone out there know if the early tr6 black bezel speedometer up to 1972 is the same as the later chrome bezel 1973 to 1976? Is the instrument the same with a different bezel? Thanks, John

I believe the answer is "no". The speedometer drive ratio changed around that time, and ISTR it was at the black/chrome change. Earlier cars had exactly 2.5:1 in the gearbox/OD, and the speedo head was calibrated for around 1100 turns per mile (with 3.7 gears) or around 1025 with 3.45 gears.

After the change, the speedo gears in the gearbox/OD changed (the OD also changed to J-type) to match the final drive ratio; and the speedo head was always calibrated for 1000 turns per mile.
