TR6 TR6 sills/rocker color

Heya,

I have a 74 TR6 that has had body work (new panels & all) and a total respray courtesy of my attempt to drive up the tailpipe of a Lexus SUV. An "accidental" restoration, anyone? I swear she short-stopped the intersection, My fault I know!

Nevertheless with the majority of the work done now, I have a rather quick detail question and am looking for a consensus. At least an opinion from the forum.

What is the color of the sills/rockers supposed to be for 1974. Originally, pre-Lexus, my car had black sills. Any mention I have found through research is that there was a change in color, to black for the TR sills/rockers, happening around the time of the production dates for the TR250/TR5, with an exception that the earliest TR6 models had body color sill/rockers from the factory. However, many a TR6 of all ages that I have seen, have body color sill/rockers rather than what I assume was factory standard black below the chrome sill/rocker trim, post TR250.

OK I know it may be a matter of preference at this point given that so many cars have been rebuilt but I am looking for what serves as "original" Any opinions?

Keith

I bought a new '69 TR6 and it had matte black (with a pebble type finish) on the rockers.

My '73 has matt black sills.

The rockers are painted the body color with a matte black chip coat over top.

Keith,

I did mine with Duplicolor Truck Bed Liner. Looks pretty close to original and had held up well in about 8000 miles since my resto

Although mine has been restored (not by me) and is not the original color (I don't think) the P.O. went with the matte black rockers, which I like. It's a '71.
