TR6 tr6 sheared bolts

Have to replace the ignition switch dash is out anyone have any idea to get the sheared bolts out of the switch on the steering column they say use a dremel tool but how do you get it in there any suggestions

If you mean the bolts whose heads are designed to shear on installation, my BMC shop used to use a small sharp cold chisel, with good corners, on the outer circumference and tap them out.

Remove both the tach and speedo. You can then get to the bolts with small 90 cut off wheel or dremel with cut off wheel. Cut straight across the bolt head good enough to make a screwdriver slot. They will screw right out. Don't be alarmed if you cut a little into the housing. You will have loosen up the double brace to rotate the sw to drop it it out.

Once out, I replaced mine with hex bolts...

I cut through the housing with a cut off wheel not that bad now to put it all back together again thanks

I switched to a TR4 center plinth and moved the ignition switch there. If you aren't worried about concours or originality, that's the best way.

I actually did the switch in the heater plinth also, used an early TR6-250 plinth that Moss sells. It has 4 or 5 cutout availability. So much nicer than the stupid switch under the steering wheel. Not so comfortable to use; unless your girlfriend is starting the car for you! ;-).

I just extended the wiring with some short leads and spade connectors so it can go back to original if need be.

My 250 had the center mounted switch and it just looks and feels much cooler.
