TR6 TR6 seats

Hello!

Just found this forum, and seems like there is some great discussion here. A few months back, I sold my '67 MGB and purchased a '72 TR6. I've started working on it, and it's a blast! The car sat for a long time, and I've changed all the liquids, re-built brake master cylinder and replaced the clutch MC. There's a local expert on LBC carbs, and I had him work on those. MAn, what a difference!

At this point, I'm concerned about the seats. Not the most comfortable I've sat in! Have most people just stuck with the same seats to be true to the mark, or any ideas on improving the seats?

Thanks for your thoughts!

Bill,

Most TR 6 owners feel that the seats are quite comfortable. I have driven my 74 TR 6 over 800 in one day.

Check out the diaphrams under the seats for tears. They are easy to replace and make a big difference.
Also check under the seats for some yellowish brown "stuff". This is crumbled up foam that has fallen out of the seat. It will add to the support of the seat when it is fresh.
Some owners have replaced their seats with seats from a Miata. You have to be careful because of the restricted space available.
Enjoy your 6.

OK, Here ie the El cheapo quick fix of the day. I have a banger TR6 that I drive, seats were colapsed, so I bungied the underneath diaphram then undid the cushion flaps and stuffed that popcorn styrofome packing stuff that come in boxes shipped to ya. I pushed with my hands and a short broom stick till I thought it was enough, the I walked the seats into shape, Goofy but better than collapsed seats, kind of a massaging feel to them. As I tell my kids...do as I say, not as I do. I dont know why I washed out of med school tho

Hey Bill,
I just rebuilt my seats on my TR6. I put an extra 1/4in. foam it then and they are comfortable. The member Dr. Bill just bought new seats out of Victoria British because they are on sale. Just an idea. This is only if you want to rebuild them or replace them. The quick fix would be the bungy and popcorn foam idea from BOXoROCKS.

I had read the posts about Dr. Bill buying new seats. They were from VB?

I think I'll go the rebuild route, they seem pretty sturdy, probably need new cushions. I'll check out prices for cushions. Thanks for all of your help! This forum seems like a great place!

Had my '72 6 seats done several years ago by Heritage Trim. Their website gives good info. Originally bought hides from them, but the pattern was wrong, and after a phone conversation we worked out a deal for them to do the work at a good price. Amazing work they do, and though it was pricey, it was my little treat. The hides are glove soft, and now that they're worn a little are really nice. Probably the nicest part of the car, but then it's the piece I sit on all day, and was well worth it. Sure smells nice, too. (not from me sitting on it, but from the hides)

An update on the VB seats I bought. They are not that easy to install as only one of the mounting holes would fit. (now how could "none" of them fit?!) Had to drill new holes for the remainder and, you guessed right, through the frame. Quality? Questionable. Comfort? Excellent. Frame not as good as original but had a lot more slide length and good reclining ability. (useless with rollbar) I am mounting mine directly to metal floor with 1/8" rubber strips glued to bottom of rail. Having new carpet made to slide underneath and velcroed down. (slits) Would recommend them but not for purist.

An addendum, a friend had Recaros in her TR6 and they looked terrible. These VB seats (they called them Suffolk) are close to original.
