TR6 TR6 Rocker Paint

I am finishing my TR6 restoration and would appreciate any pics on the exact areas on the rockers/sills that require "Black" undercoating.

If memory serves me most TR6's came from the factory with the entire area below the door from the front fender to the rear fender painted with a textured black undercoating.

Does the Chrome Moulding rest on the line or in the middle?

Thanks. I bought this car from a non-completed restoration and it was a mess.

Hi Baliee2 (can't be your real name can it, maybe a twin, anyway....)

I checked Piggott's Original Triumph TR4-6 for you and it hard to tell from the pictures in there about the black paint on the rocker bottom.

It appears that up to the 1974 model year the sills were painted black. From 1974 on they were body color. I'd get a second opinion for sure.

The chrome trim appears to be right on the highpoint of the sill molding, a bit down from where it meets the door. Like this;

The 1969 TR6 for sure had black paint below
the horizontal chrome strip.

Here's what my unrestored 74.5 looks like; I have no reason to believe they were ever redone. The rocker finish is (was) black and looks pretty rough texture-wise.

Thanks guys!

Since my six is a 72' I will paint the sills
Black.

I appreciate the great photo's. Hopefully I may be as helpful in the future with something I've learned.

I too understood this chip guard on the rocker was originally done at the factory. Quite frankly, I like the look of it so I painted my sills black below the chrome trim strip. I used Black TexCoat Chip guard (4313) from Transtar. It provides a nice chip-resistant coating.
