TR6 TR6 Rear Axle Noise

First post here! Yesterday I took my -6 out for a 450 mile ride in Washington State's mountains after my total rebuild of the front suspension. Ran great! I'm so proud of myself until I get home, and there is a dull clunk with every turn of the L rear tire. The u-joints seem tight, but the sliding shaft is a bit loose or worn, and that is where the noise is. Is this just an annoyance of Triumphs, or am I looking at buying a new inner and outer shaft set with no play? Thanks!

Welcome to the forum and just hang on. I'm sure a helpful member will appear with an answer to your question. Any excess play doesn't sound good to me, but I've never had mine apart to know what's allowable, so just give it a little time for some experience on the subject to appear.

Hi,

I had the same noise, turned out the threaded end of the inner axle had sheared off at the nut to flange interface. I am guessing, but looking at the nut, someone must have used an impact wrench to tighten the nut. I haven't been able to locate a left side inner axle, does anyone know of a supplier?

Thanks

Put up a picture. I have a bunch of spares after I upgraded to CV joints. They are laying around taking up space. I might be able to help you out. No promises until I see the pic though...

Hi Alana,

Pictures on forums are beyond my ability! It's the left side stub axle, comes out of the rear end and the inner u-joint flange bolts onto it. Hope this helps!

thanks,
