Check out the TR6 #2481880465 on Ebay. It's incredible, I'm incredulous. I will never understand if I live to be 100 yrs old. All my life I thought Old Brit car people were a cut above, I've got to stop looking at Ebay, it absolutly ruins my day. I truly wish there was a clearing house for information so people could get the truth about what is genuine and original, and charlatens would be EXPOSED. First I have no problem with someone asking 20K for a TR6. But I don't think this is your point. For those of us that own a 6 and have restored one (two in my case), the photos tell a tell. The car has been resprayed, there is definately rust (look at the firewall), the engine compartment is nasty, the doors don't fit (they rarely do), the dash has been redone poorly, etc. Really close inspection of this or any TR6 should be done by a pro or someone with vast knowledge to acertain the true value. A fine example of a truly great TR6 in #5 condition is worth 20+ thousand. A 6 that has been restored to concours condition is worth even more because every thing is new. There are two untitled TR6's at the Jag dealer in New Orleans (Metairie actually) that have been in climate controlled environment for 28 years. They are perfect. Except everthing is 28 years old, and all the rubber,etc. will have to be changed to make it concours. Something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I have an obscene amount on money in my 6, it is not concours, but it keeps me off the streets and out of the bars. My wife always knows where I am, under the Triumph. The point, always know the car you want to buy and check it out VERY carefully before you make a serious offer.

Museum Condition??!?!?! That Bug-eyed Sprite guy must have accidentally put in one too many zeros! Museum cars often are not that good. I suppose if that is worth $40K, I should hop on buying the one sitting at a dealer in Tacoma for $8K.
Ebay makes me laugh sometimes. Of course, if a person is going to buy a car without due dilligence, then I suppose they deserve to be taken.
Then again, the TR6 listing is sickening, since only a TR4/250/6 fanatic would notice the problems.

Good eye Dr. Bill. An opthomologist perhaps? I have no problem with TR6's going for that kind of money. The best ones are worth it. Am I a TR4/6 fanatic, well yes and no. When somebody pounds my senses with hyperbole, they better be correct. Someone asked for more details about the car. Here are a few that can be seen. God knows what can't be seen.Improperly painted, no black windscreen, no black rockers.One union jack flag on rear fender. Collapsed seat foams. B.S.revarnished dash, poor fitting glovebox, incorrect latch. Panel light dash knob askew,why?Panel light short out and wiring problems?Carpet on back wheel wells.Painted trunk prop rod.No flasher relay in engine comp. holder,more wiring problems?Incorrect jack.No boot cover seen.Incorrectly folded conv. top.Look at the quarter light windows.These issues along with Dr. Bill's tell me these guys are used car salesmen, nothing more.These are not serious issues that can't be corrected, but their implication is and their reserve price tell me they are frauds.Pretty strong words, but I have a vested interest in these cars.As I have been working on and restoring them for 30+yrs, and I am REALLY tired of having some ignoramous use EBay as a comparison to what I do.Too many people know the price of everything,and the value of nothing.Some day I will post about a fellow traveler,whom I have never met, who called me on the phone the other day and talked to me for over an hour on this very subject.Seems he has pretty much lost his faith in humanity.Kind of sad, when you realize these are just CARS.

Thanks - therein lies the problem with assessing eBay listings. I can spot a slapdash TR3 restoration in the blink of an eye but this TR6 looked okay by me. I guess the seller's feedback policy should have been a clue:
"Ebay winners that elect not to fly in and inspect the car themselves are required to leave positive feedback after the money transfer and before the car is shipped."

Thanks - therein lies the problem with assessing eBay listings. I can spot a slapdash TR3 restoration in the blink of an eye but this TR6 looked okay by me. I guess the seller's feedback policy should have been a clue:

Buying anything from eBay, sight unseen, is a recipe for disaster. CAVEAT EMPTOR. I looked two years for my latest TR6, traveled many miles and kicked a few tires before I found the one I wanted. Insulted a few people who wanted way more than the car was worth but also made some new friends. I wanted a TR6 that had no rust and no wreck, the rest didn't matter. I now know every nut, bolt, wire and washer in the car and am completely comfortable taking her anywhere in the country, with tools and spares of course. The point is, check out before you buy or find a friend that knows every little nuance about them that can advise you.
Oh, and I am a dentist (above question)

It's a used car dealership, and something that we may not have considered may be a factor here. They are probably not familiar with LBCs, and someone who has either sold them the car or even traded it in, could have given them the story about the car being so original, paint and all. Let's face it, unless you knew something about these cars, you would be in awe of it, wouldn't you agree? These guys probably have way more than they should have stuck into this car now, and they see eBay as the way to best reach the right market for it......only now they are exposing the car to those that DO know about the cars......follow my reasoning here? I used to work at a couple of (new car) dealerships, and believe me, the people who know anything about LBCs are very thin on the ground.

Crooks can hide easily behind a computer modem. And, misrepresentation and nondisclosure are bound to occur on a meduium such as EBay. I just hope that the eventual buyer of such cars as this take a VERY knowledgeable LBC person with them to inspect the car.
I, too, will probably sell my GT6 on EBay someday and will ask a blue sky price for it. I imagine I'll spend approximately twice the amount on my restoration than the car's market value. This is easier to do on a GT6. However, I'll fully disclose everything and I'll share my receipts (I have every single one) and my restoration logbook (highly detailed). Then, if someone wants to pay me twice the "market" value of my car, I'll be glad to accept it.
The vast majority of LBC enthusiasts, especially the ones who post here regularly, are honest folks. As with everything else, it's a few bad apples that spoil the barrel.
I hate it, but it's bound to happen.

Since we're examining it . . . What's up with the battery? Correct batt would have the neg post away from the scuttle. No batt retaining bar. Incorrect ground cable; how are the separate body and gearbox grounds accommodated? Gotta love the mud flaps. Passenger window INSIDE rear hood retaining flap. Wipers parked on the windscreen frame. Improperly terminated passenger door seal. Ignition cable lengths are bizarre. No lamp/plinth on the gearbox rear tunnel. WS washer motor missing its cover? The Kangols look authentic though.
