TR6 TR6 LUK Clutch kit from Autozone/Pep Boys?

I finally got my gearbox out and after a lot of cleaning up found that the pin was in fact broken. Hooray (sort of - at least I know what the problem was!). The DPO used a lengthened slave cylinder push rod, which appears to have held pressure on the pressure plate and so the spring "fingers" are badly worn - about half way through their thickness! This seems to have allowed the driven plate to wear, and it is down to 0.25 inches thick, so, a new clutch kit. I looked at the "magic kit" from TRF and the other vendors seem to have similar systems, but I seem to remember reading that LUK is okay - better than B&B and more "original" feeling (pedal pressure) than the Sachs plate. I can apparently get the LUK kit from Autozone or PepBoys for around $150, which seems like a good deal. I don't usually even think about buying parts from Autozone etc., but saw an ad for PepBoys referring to LUK kits, so gave them a call.

So, any opinions on LUK? Worth doing, or am I saving a few dollars at the expense of doing the job again in a few months?

Thanks for any help or experience
Alistair

I really think that Luk and Borg & Beck are one and the same now. Am I wrong?

I don't know if they are the same, but I'm getting a Toyota trans conversion kit from HVDA. Since it's going into a TR3, I have to also get the TR6 diaphram pressure plate. Herman said to get the LUK if possible. He mentioned something about the assembled height of the others (Borg & Beck??) as being inconsistent.

TR6 LUK Clutch kit

Just to update this in case anyone is interested, the LuK kits appear to be sold out pretty much everywhere. The American distributor in Ohio reckons they will have some in November. I found this out after ordering from 2 places only to be told that they couldn't get the kit after a week or so...

From what I have learned talking to the suppliers, it appears that the LuK and B&B are still different, with LuK actually now supplying the Sachs pressure plate (as used in the TRF "magic kit" among others) along with an AP friction plate. Not sure on the bearing manufacturer. This is just what I was told, by the way - it could be wrong!

I finally went for the equivalent of the magic kit with the Koyo bearing from BPNW - seems to be the same parts as TRF, but for nearly $90 less.

One thing that has surprised me a bit is that I appear to have a brass release bearing sleeve. According to Nelson Riedel this is a good thing. It doesn't have the pin that stops it rotating on the shaft, though - is that likely to cause a problem?

Hope the above is of some use to someone!
