Hello, listers, is it possible to rebuild these horn buttons? https://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p52/mrv8q/IMG_0540.jpg
My new one from TRF has a nice shiny button and chrome ring, but the contact on the back seems wobbly. I'd love to keep my old horn internals, and just exchange the new shiny stuff into the old horn. Has anyone done this? TIA!

I haven’t swapped out any parts but I did have mine apart to repair it.
On the back of the switch you should see three recesses where the front button tabs come through. Carefully pry them toward the outside IIRC. This will release the button from the base but watch out for the relatively strong tapered spring that is in there it could send everything flying.
Do what you need to do and snap it back together aligning the tabs in their proper spots, they are not symmetric so the button only fits the base one way.

I rebuilt the horn, not hard at all, and I achieved what I wanted: original Lucas guts, and new horn button and chrome trim ring.

FWIW, here's a comparison of old Lucas and new TRF internals. https://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p52/mrv8q/IMG_0542.jpg The biggest difference is the old has more of a button for a contact.

Hi, I am having difficulty with understanding the anatomy....Did your horn button have a “ horn brush “ that it pushed on to establish the ground in the column....If so, was it below the brass appearing tab in the center of the column ? Does the spring have anything to do with establishing a ground ?. Thanks for any help you can give me....Do you have any additional photos ? Thanks, bob g
