TR6 TR6 Hood Release Cable

Guys,

I need a recommendation on how to upgrade my hood release cable. With the stock/original design (handle for the hood release cable positioned in the upper area of the drivers side footwell side wall), i have had to replace the cable 3 times. Even when brand new, the cable seems like it binds, and has never seemed to have a good feel.

Luckily I had installed the emergency release pull that mounts under the passenger side dash area. It is what have been using since the summer, but doesnt seem like a strong enough design to be the primary mechanism.

A while back I saw some posts about a modification to mount the cable along the passenger footwell side wall. The designs looked like upgrades, with an improved handle and the routing of the cable was much shorter. it was also hidden nicely.

I was wondering if there is a kit for sale to accomplish this. Presumably, I would still keep the back up mechanism.

Any recommendations or photos really appreciated. Not worried about originality, as I never really like the routing of the stock cables.

Thank you

I have the same problem with the hood release cable. Got tired of fussing with it, now I just use the use the emergence release exclusively. Works much better.

Available from a variety of sources, including Moss https://mossmotors.com/emergency-hood-release-kit so simple you could fabricate yourself, but so cheap why bother. Most who install say they end up using it as the default hood release, not just for emergecies. You need to drill a small hole in your bodywork under the hood. It is a straight line down, nothing to bind or go wrong.

Me too. I wish they made one for the Alfa. It also has a cable for the trunk and gas cap. Not good if one breaks - and this car is now 27 years old.

The TR4 has the hood release cable on the passenger side as the stock location. I like the extra release from Macy which is solid metal and not cable.

Just wondering. Where is the stock cable on the right hand drive cars? If it's on the right side, why didn't they just leave it there instead of crossing it over to the left side on the TR6? That's where it was on my daughter's Mini.

I purchased a new hood release cable from Moss, and the emergency cable. I am cutting off the original casing to make it shorter, and plan to mount it through the firewall on the passenger side - and run the new emergency cable through it as it is the same cable in the full cable part handle. Happy to forward a diagram and pictures and let you know how it comes out.
