TR6 TR6 heater fan switch replacement

My next project will be to get the heater blower working again now that the cold weather is peeking around the corner. My new electrical manual arrived from TRF and I saw the troubleshooting procedure for my problem laid out rather simply. BTW, the problem is that when the fan switch is turned on, the fuse blows instantly.

In the event that the heater fan switch is bad, is there a replacement available anywhere? TRF, Moss and V/Brit all show the picture but no switch is available.

Thanks,

Paul

My electical knowledge is limited, but I had a similar problem with my 71. Everytime I pulled the heater knob the fuse would blow. I discovered that on my switch several of the connectors on the back would go hot at the same time when I'd pull the switch and one of those connectors would ground against the metal of the dashboard support through which the switch fits. I couldn't seem to get my switch to fit in properly so as to not ground so I just insulated the unused connectors on the back with electical tape. Problem solved.....for now. Hopefully I'll come up with a better solution in the future, but for now I at least have a heater.

Interesting! I hope that's all it turns out to be. I know that it's tight in there and I've been waiting to remove everything to install all new pads and clean gauges, but that looks like a project now headed for next spring. The heater will come first. Thanks for the tip.

Mark at British Auto has those switches. It could be a bad ground fault in the switch, as mine did the same thing. I'd first check the motor however, by bypassing the switch entirely and seeing if the motor will run hooked up to 12V. Mine tested fine, so I knew it had to be the switch.I ended up replacing it and no more problem. Mark's number is 315-986-3097. Good luck...

I'll give him a call tomorrow after I test the switch and motor.

Thanks,

Paul

The switch on my TR250 was bad and I luckily had an old 2 position pullout headlamp switch from a metal dash MGB (pre-68) which is exactly the same, except for the knob, which comes right off. These are also not listed in the usual sources. I found that one on ebay several years ago.

I also have the same problem, I've been trying to think of what it could be. I'll try bypassing the switch too. Thanks.

I'll be away from the computer for a couple of days. Please post back whatever you come up with, as I haven't had time to get to mine yet.

Thanks,

Paul
