I'm in the process of rebuilding the original seats in my 1973 TR6. I'd been wondering why the drivers side headrest was jammed in the partially extended position until I disassembled the seat back and found a sheet metal screw wedged in the bottom of the mount /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif. Anyway, I removed that and the headrest came out. There were two pieces of a nylon coil still in the housing which I believe is the original friction device (p/n CZA4713 in the TRF & Revington catalogs), but which are no longer available from any of the usual suspects. When I hold a piece in the middle of the housing and put the headrest in, there is an appropriate amount of friction but the small remaining pieces slide out of position after the headrest is moved a few times.
Before I go scavenging on the used parts market, have any of you:
1) Replaced this nylon coil with something more readily available?
2) Got any laying around?
3) Know of anyone who might have some laying around?
Also, I've read that you should just be able to pull the headrests out with perhaps some jiggling so, but I had to press the tab in with a screwdriver in order to remove it. Looking at the tab when it is installed it looks like forcing the headrest out would have to deform the tab because the shallow angle is in the downward side. This part is not shown in any catalog that I've found so I can't tell if it is installed correctly or not. Thoughts?
