TR6 TR6 Headliner Color

Was off-white the only color for the factory hardtop headliner, or was the dark charcoal color offered back then? I'm going to restore a factory hardtop. The car is yellow, with a black interior. Would a black headliner make things too dark? Your thoughts are appreciated. Bob

I think the Black headliner would look great matching the interior.

But its dealers choice!

I just with i had a original hardtop to put on my six!

but at the prices their going for I'll go topless!

My hard top had the off white or cream color. I think that black would make me claustrophobic.

My hardtop has a black headliner, I think it was put in to match the black interior. I don't think white would look proper, but white was the original color.

I went throught the same issue last summer when I rebuilt my top. I really wanted to go with the black/charcoal to match the interior. The better half said it would be too dark. So I went to the fabric store and bought some light and dark cheap material and used clothes pins to hold it up as a temporary headliner to help me make a choice. The wife was right. The black was too much and ended going with the off white.

Gordo

I too went with light color. The material used was originally for early mustangs and I had it sewn up using a TRF liner I got in a parts deal that was black as a pattern. The original material seems to be more grayish white, but how much is age and how much was original color I can't tell.
I also put some sound deadener in before the new liner was installed.
Here is a photo:

I have the white car and shadow blue interior and I wanted it as light inside.

On 2nd thought after seeing the white headliner I think that would be the way I would go.

I can only compare with the black convertable top I have & that seems a bit claustrophobic.

Very nice job Norton!!!!

FWIW, TRF is featuring them this weekend......

By the way, it's not really white, it's a light beige or bone color. If someone is really interested I would send a small sample.
The square of material draped over the front is what had been installed although it was all ripped out.
A word of caution, when my interiors folks looked at the black replacement liner I had, they indicated that the loops sew to hold the cross rod bows left something to be desired. They made this liner using the black replacement liner and the old liner for me and it was cheaper by 50 bucks than buying a new one from the usual vendors. The material was left over from another project they had done.
These are not hard to install but to get a good job there are tricks to the trade. Figuring out center lines, marking each loop where the bow goes through, cutting back the loop so the material curves from the bow to the rim smoothly. I would work with someone knowledgeable if possible. I learned alot and in doing so,let them do it.
