TR6 TR6- Group buy of Moss axle and hub conversion?,or

If you have been following a post by alana we were talking about a axle and hub conversion. The Moss (Europe) conversion is a complete bolt in package and looks like the best option other than the price. We had the idea to buy one side set up from moss and have some one like Goodparts or other make a copy--hopefully getting it alot cheaper. Moss price including shipping for two sides is around $2000. Alot of us are looking for a complete conversion not just axles or just hubs, and we thought we can have them made here cheaper. Of course we need to find a builder first, but if 20 people went in on one Moss axle that would be $50 dollars each. So we need to know who would be willing and any solid Ideas on a builder. Supposedly this conversion has some BMW parts in it, so it might help make it easy to build. you might want to read alana post first before you respond to this. Allan

ALLAN - there is a parallel post on this topic on 6pack.

In it there is a gentleman in the US who is already developing a solution for this, using inner and outer CV joints and an uprated hub (this last from the PM I exchanged with him) which he states will be commercially available first half of next year for less than the Moss setup.

Given the Moss parts buy wouldn't happen until early next year at the earliest, I'm inclined to give the guy a few weeks to see where he's at, both with supply and pricing.

If it doesn't come off, and Moss don't offer a good discount for a group purchase then definately I'm up for buying a singleton and trying to get it duplicated, but frankly I'm lazy and would prefer the "write a check" solution if available, especially if it IS going to be cheaper.

Re: TR6- Group buy of Moss axle and hub conversion

Are there any other details? Has he aready tried some out? Is he still using the tr6 splines?, if so-- then that would be out for me. By the looks of the Moss unit it would be pretty hard to beat.

Alan, I believe those CV joints not only allow the joining axles to take on different angles, but also, to slide into each other. A friend of mine converted a GT6 over to 3.4 V6, changed out the rubber coupler in his rear axle to VW bus CV joints. This has eliminated the well known problems with the original design.
