TR6 TR6 fuzzy seal clip help please

My car never had any window seals when I purchased it. The outside rubber seal clips were obvious, but the inside fuzzy seals are not. On the inside fuzzy seals, how is the "S" shaped clip oriented? Does the large part hold it on or the small part? Does the clip get fastened so that the other clip part on the clip goes away from the glass or to the glass (I think it must have been there to hold in the plastic)? Any help is much appreciated.

Hi Kevin,

A little hard to describe, but here goes.

The fuzzy seal sits down into the V of the clip. The little notched tab should be on the back of the fuzzy seal pointing up. The idea it to hook this little tab on the metal edge inside the door and pull up with the appropriate tool to hold it there with friction. Continue along the fuzzy starting from one end to the other and pull each clip up as you move along.

This is probably my least favorite job. I would rather strip undercoating for several hours...

Good luck

Cheers,
M. Pied Lourd

PS, if this hasn't help, I think I have an old fuzzy seal in the garage that I can take a pic of.

Kevin- the clip on the right?

If that's the clip, Dave said it right. There is a tool sold. Most made their own. I went to NAPA to look for something close. Then I jury rigged it

I've used one of the picks in a Snap-On set. It has a compound bend in it and they're strong enough to stay in one piece from the torture/force you need to do the task.

I have the tool described. I saw it in my Bentley manual, and there was a guy on Ebay that made these.

I see one of the problems. There were still some original clips on my car that I retrieved and was going to use again. I ordered additional clips (since I was missing most of them) from either Moss or TRF, but they are different - like the the ones to the right in your pic, Don. Let's concentrate on the ones you posted, Don. So, the large part of the clip goes on the metal part of the fuzzy seal, and the little part of the clip goes onto the sheet metal on my door?

It's been years Kevin, but sounds right

Yes Kevin, that is correct.

Thanks for the help everyone. I just noticed that the two fuzzy seals are different thicknesses. I feel like I can never let my guard down with the big three! Can someone tell me how thick the fuzzy seals are supposed to be? The driver side is 3/8", and the passenger side seal is 1/4". At least if I know what size they are supposed to be, I can put the correct one on.
Kevin

There were 2 sizes a while ago. I thought they fixed that!
Who from Kev?

I lost my invoice, but I found out I purchased them from Victoria British. After going to their site, I figured out that it was my mistake. They had "reproduction" and "OEM". Somehow I ordered OEM for the driver side and repro for the passenger side.

Here's a walk-through for installing the inner & outer seals. It's actually pretty easy once you've done it. I bought the Moss tool which "worked" but wasn't worth the money. If you have a Home Depot nearby you can pick up this siding tool that costs $5 and is much better made and works just as well.

Let me add to my previous post.....I've done this a bunch of times and it's not that difficult with the right tool and a little patience.

The Tool I showed up above has to be modified for the inner seal by cutting slot in the tool to accommodate the small clip. I used my grinder with a cutting wheel to do this.

Using it this way lets you pull it up on to the door panel.

And this way helps to get it on the inner seal itself....imagine it's already on the door.

The clips themselves are specific to the seal and the inner clip on the left has an additional small clip to hold the inner seal.

It's hard to get a picture of the inner seal clip once it's on the car but here you can see how the clip fits over the door panel. The seal itself is on the small part of the inner clip

I think your method will work a whole lot better than what I was doing, Bob. I had the order reversed on what attached where with the clips, too. Unfortunately after fighting the thing for an hour I had already trashed the one fuzzy seal. Cheap lesson over all I guess. Thanks for the info. I will have to take another shot at it next week.

By the way, what is the difference between OEM and reproduction?
