It has been a long day. My front end was so messed up I ended up using a cutting tool - I was careful, and managed not to damage anything. I have one last thing to deal with - the lower brass trunion. I had to cut the bolt that goes through the trunion in a number of spots. I ground it down almost flush to the trunion surface on both sides and tried to drill it out. I don' know if it is the cheap Chinese drill bits or what, but I have been drilling for over an hour and can't seem to remove any more metal? Any ideas?

Worn out drill bit. If you bought it at the hardware store, it's not made to drill very far into a grade 8 or 5 bolt. Unfortunately, when resharpened it won't hold it's edge as only the tip is hardened. A good cutting oil helps reduce heat allowing longer drill life. Also, never run the drill full speed. A slower speed allows the drill to work and reduces heat. Heat is a cutting tool's worst enemy.
If there is that much corrosion and things are seized up, I would put away the drill and order a new trunnion. Check the other side before placing the order.

:iagree: If the bolt is frozen in there, the chances are the front suspension has not been lubricated as well as it could have been. The threaded part of the trunnion may also be worn, so I would replace it with new.

I agree with Nick. Get two new ones and be done with it.
