Hello,
I am doing a frame off restoration on a 1976 TR6. Let me start by saying the door gaps were pretty decent on the car before I disassembled it. The frame has had the trailing arm mounts replaced sometime in its life, and the lower "T Shirt" has been replaced with some metal in the shape of a square. While plenty strong enough,I am not happy with the quality of the repair, and am going to replace both mounts as well as the t shirts (upper and lower). With everything I have read on "Hogging" in Roger Williams restoration book, I am proceeding with caution. It is hard to say the mounts are in the right spot before I remove them, as this was previous repair and I have nothing to go by that is factory as far as trailing arm angle/placement. The Bentley manual does not show the angles of the arms, so I can only reference where the mounts are now. Also, there is a good picture in the Roger Williams book that shows a frame with angle iron clamped to the length of the frame, and a piece of round stock tacked to the rear to get the right drop for reference while welding. I should be able to figure the drop by the Bentley blueprints. I really want the frame right before any body panels are repaired. If anyone can tell me their thoughts on this I would be grateful!
