TR6 TR6 frame differences?

Any body know how to tell the difference between an early and late TR6 frame? I know the transmission mount is different but I don't have any pics of of an A or J type mount to relate to. I need to have some info that I can use when looking at a bare frame. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

That's the only difference as far as I know, the gearbox mounting points. The early frame mounting points are farther forward by a few inches. And of course a different gearbox mount system is used. Check your TRF or Moss catalogs for detailed drawings.
 
The reinforcements on the front suspension are only on the later ones. Again it's in moss.

I have found a frame but want to make sure it's a late one before I buy it, it's one of those things where I don't really need it yet but will within a few years (trailing arm
mount box section rust). May as well buy it while it's available as long as it's the right one.

Just bought that frame, has the front reinforcements. Does the letter stamped on a plate on the front crossmember mean anything? Looked at TRF and Rimmer and no mention, only body, engine, tran etc. Mine has a "D".

i believe the D was stamped on the frames beginning with the TR250...on up through '76 TR6. i have a "few" tr250s & they all have the D stamps...i also have a '75 tr6 frame...same D

the only problem you'll run into is if you go to install a j-type overdrive tranny in an early frame. the 4 speed & a-type overdrive tranny will go in either without issue.
