TR6 TR6 Fan on a TR3

Anyone using this combo. I've heard the inverted 6 fan does a great job of pulling air thru the rad. and am considering this modification rather than going electric. Comments.

You might also consider the early (69) 7 blade yellow plastic fan. It is smaller and has rounded blades. I see them every once in a while on ebay.

I believe that radiator will have to be moved forward an inch to accomodate the yellow TR6 fan. My experience with it on a TR4 is that I rarely have to activate the electric fan now that I have the yellow TR6 fan.

I'm running the TRF yellow fan on my '3... I didn't have to move my radiator any, but I did replace my engine and trans mounts; still, the fan is close to the crossbrace, YMMV. I also had my radiator boiled out, and the hole filled.
If the outside temp is 100Âş+, or 60Âş, like last Saturday, my temp gauge measures a tick over the 185Âş mark, and measured digitally as 177Âş. I'd recommend the fan, but then I've never driven my car w/ the original 4-blader...

Kevin,
Did you mount the fan backwards for more clearance? I've seen this done and the blades, obviously, are still oriented correctly although the aggressive edge is reversed.
The four blader just can't cut it in warm country.
Thanks

Yep, I inverted the fan; it wouldn't work the 'correct' way... ISTR now I added one or two washers between the fan and the round pulley, for just a touch more offset from the crossbrace.... I'm happy w/ it. If you get the fan from TRF, get the installation kit, too. Why they don't offer them together, I don't know.... (unless you're putting it on a TR6, D'oh!)

I have a replacement recored original rad w/o hole to put in place also once I pull the apron (small mouth 56). I'm also adding an oil cooler/thermo op. Even though the car does not overheat the oil viscosity @ 100+ degree Az weather drops the oil pressure and a friend eleviated that with the Oil cooler on his small mouth. I'll still have the option of the pusher fan if I need it but would rather not. Sounds like you are still running an elec fan up front.
Trying to decide wether to convert to 1/2 in belt pulleys at that time.
I did purchase the complete fan & assem kit from TRF.
Did you have any trouble removing the fan assem. extension bolt? Is the bolt normally threaded (right to tighten/left loosen)?

No, not running an electrical fan, and don't remember having any difficulty taking off anything, it seemed all pretty straightforward... Have fun!
