Asking on behalf of a friend:

I have the opportunity to buy one [TR6 Factory Hardtop] but before purchasing, I would like to find out how hard it is to switch back and forth between the standard convertible top and the hard top. Does it require any extra holes or mounting hardware to fit it onto the back sill of the body? Does the existing canvas top have to be removed completely every time I want to install the hard top?

Also... feel free to answer any questions he should have asked but didn't. Thanks for any info you can provide.

The soft top can be left in place, it is more of a pain, you replace some of the top mounting hardware with longer versions while the hard top is in place. Doing so however will ruin one of the niceties of the hardtop, open storage behind the seats.

Thanks for the heads-up Gil.

Geo - tell you friend that having a hard top is great but do you need to secure it properly or it will drive you nuts.

Thanks to all -- he appreciated the advice. He going to get the top with the idea of putting it on for half the year and having it off for the other half of the year.

Geo I never had a hard top for my car but I believe there is a boot cover that goes over the folded soft top when the hardtop is on the car. I've seen them before but I don't know how it works. A friend of mine has one with his original hardtop car that I can go look at if he has not left for Montana for the summer. The cover has some sort of pocket in it. It's nothing like the standard boot cover. Let me know if you want me to go check it out.

I have for sale all three glasses from an original hartop that was sadly :frown: put to rest due to rust. Glasses are original.
Make me an offer. Buyer pays shipping from Puerto Rico.

Thanks,

Vic

True. The soft top can stay in place with some fiddling and there is a special boot cover to protect the soft top.

Randy
