TR6 TR6 Engine Temp survey

did the investgation on the gauge "calibration".. those two windows only control (have an affect) on needle sweep(or extent of travel of the needle) one for the left side and one for the right side.
Not sure I understand your point, Ron. The two calibration controls change the reading for a given sender resistance ... what more do you want ?

BTW, one adjustment affects the entire range more-or-less evenly (bias); while the other adjustment affects mostly the high end reading (scale). The two interact somewhat (especially if you choose calibration points that are not at the end of the scale, which is recommended), so it's necessary to move back and forth a bit to get it right.

We must agree to disagree.

Smiths gauges having the two windows adjust the sweep(the amount of travel of the needle) one in one direction, one in the other direction.

So either I'm not explaining what I read(and know) where it can be understood, or???

I'm not trying to argue here, just explain what I know. Now I keep my doors open to knowledge input and learning, but when I learn how a gauge operates 40 years ago, and the gauge operation has NOT changed. I feel that I cannot change my understanding of what you are implying, as that is NOT what I have learned,

The suggestions I offer here are trying to assist others in keeping their cars operational. Not trying to make any alterations that would cause harm down the road. Being a pro mechanic for over 35 years, multiple manufacturers schoolings, raced Baja, raced Europe in Formula III, ran a few hotrods(converted instrument gauge wiring on a 40 Ford Coupe Deluxe from 6 to 12 volt) Jags, VW's and Triumphs over the years, so if you find my input arguable, I just will not input anymore. I do NOT need to come to a website, where I feel that I should be enjoying myself and find myself under criticism for something that I KNOW!

Suit yourself, Ron. I know I'm correct just as surely as you do. These are neither Honda nor VW nor yet Ford gauges ... I had a Triumph gauge apart, and successfully calibrated it, just a few months ago. Unfortunately I didn't take photos to show you how the mechanism works, or how the 'cold' adjustment changes the 'hot' reading; I will next time.

Sorry you feel like you must leave; really not my intention. But likewise, I'm also trying to help people fix their cars, and it's usually easier with the right information.
