Is the stock fan on the TR6 temp controlled or is supposed to be running when the ignition is on?

The tr6 did not come with an electric fan (after market only) There are two types of controled fans, one with a preset thermostat that kicks on around 180 degrees--the other has an adjustable thermostat. If it is wired direct to a battery source it will run anytime the water temp is up to the set degrees on the thermostate (even with the key off),if it is wired to an ignition source it will run when the ignition is on (if water temp is up). It could run all the time(even when cold) if you have a bad thermostat. If you have a plastic fan blade with an extention bolted on to the crankshft pulley--then you have a stock fan that only turns with the engine running (non electric).

I went an electric fan with a fixed temp of 185 degrees. I wired it so that it will run even when the car is turned off. That way after driving it on a hot day the fan will help cool down the car faster after shutting it off. I went with a SPAL thermal monitor/ It was recommended by TR6 Bill. I am very happy so far. I had the local radiator mount the thermal sensor in the bottom of the radiator. I also added a shroud between the radiator and the engine. It is sold by British Victoria. I figured that it would help direct directly on the engine. Of course I have the shroud that goes between the radiator and the front valance.

The only TR6's I've seen that came with an electrical fan were thoes with dealer installed A/C. The electrical fan was an auxillary fan and did not replace the OEM belt driven fan. If you do not have a belt driven fan entended from the water pump, you have an after market set up. (That would not be a bad thing /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonod.gif)

Would not be the first time I was wrong, but isn't the stock fan on a TR6 attached to the crankshaft extension and not "belt-driven"?

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif If you had never been wrong before, this would NOT break your record. NOT BELT DRIVEN but driven by an extension of the crankshaft. I don't know where my mind was, thanks for the correction. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gif
