TR6 Tr6 Down Draft Webers - need help

73 modified tr6 with dual down draft Weber carbs.. Bought the car this way and would like to give the carbs a fair chance before swaping back to the ZS or buying SUs.

Engine has stock fuel pump that looks to be delivering 2 psi which I have read is not enough. Carter 4070 appears to be the pump of choice for webers.

Vac advance - it is hooked to the manifold - should it go to the base of the carb instead?

Spark advance at idle - is 12deg BTDC with vac advance unhooked a good starting point?

I can get the car to idle, rev in Neutral, first drive away is pretty strong and then misfires/backfires develop.

All comments welcome..

Weber DGV carbs do not require a lot of fuel pressure. Stick with the stock fuel pump.
Hooking the vacuum advance up to the intake manifold is way too much vacuum, try to pull the vacuum from the carbs, if they have such a port. Otherwise, run strickly centrifugal advance, 8 degrees BTDC at 1000 rpm idle. Then dump the Webers and go back to ZS or SU. Weber DGV carbs are a pain to get all the jet and tube possibilities correct, unless you really know what to do with a Weber. When the DGV is sold for the Triumph setup, they are a universal setup that rarely works well for all cars. If you are bent on keeping them, get someone who can tune them. They work fine when tuned, otherwise are a royal pain.

I have had two. The first one I bolted on and they ran great! Super power. Took off 1/3 economy though. Sold car with them on. Bought a set a a swap meet and could not get them to run right. after breaking into a corner and then hitting the gas the engine would stumble for a couple of turn then take off. Went back to ZSs.
