TR6 TR6 distributor info needed...

Hi All...

I'm looking for information as to the proper distributor for my '74 TR6. The engine in the car is the original, but some time in its life the distributor was swapped out with one from an earlier year (no idea why). I know this because it has both the vacuum advance and retard (only one connected), but the 74 model year did not come with both. I'd also like to know what the advance curve is... or is suppose to be. I've found a lot of stuff on the web regarding the MGB, but nothing on the TR6. Any help will be appreciated...

Sounds like a dizzy from a '69. It had both bellows. Call Jeff at Advanced Distributors (advanceddistributors.com).

22D is the series of the distributor. The model number is a 5 digit number, usually with a single letter after it.

According to the info in TRF's on-line catalog, after engine CF12500 (which I believe would be the start of 1974), it was either 41558A or 41558D (which would have had identical specifications, just some slight differences in internal parts).

Data I have says:

OH yeah, forgot to mention: there is no reason to believe these are the optimum figures with modern fuel. As noted, you will most likely get better performance (and better fuel economy) if you ask Jeff what curve he recommends.

In fact, the one you have will likely work better than the original; if you find a way to properly connect that vacuum advance (should be good for about 10% better fuel mileage).

I'm in total agreement with having an old dizzy recurved by J. Schlemmer of Advanced Distributors.
I have an early 74 TR6 and when I got it back from Jeff, he recommended a timing of 10 - 14* BTDC @ 850 rpm with vacuum line to retard module disconnected and plugged for the procedure.
Because of the age and wear in my 100k+ engime I could not rely on the timing marks to accurately reflect the actual timing though.
But having the torque curve in the proper rpm's made a world of difference.

Thanks for all the input on my TR6 Dist. question

...looks like a call to Advanced Distributors is in order. I've been wanting to send my MGB disty there anyway to get it refurbished... Thanks...

You won't be sorry that you made that call.
